Aloha to all
Announcing a new Hawaiian Style ‘ukulele fingerpicking instruction book series!

This one is endorsed by Chris Kamaka & Lyle Ritz!!
My website & distribution system are now setup and ready for testing.

You can view my book products on my website www.pekelosbooks.com
As this first short period is only for testing, I’m offering this to the Ukulele Underground group.
Please use the login & password:
ground
under

Each book is about 65 pages and comes with a corresponding CD to listen to
and follow along.

This is a testing period – I’m not advertising yet as I’m needing to finish this testing
which is testing my website, standard ecommerce processing & distribution system,
so for a limited time of about 2 – 3 weeks, I am offering a discount to the Ukulele Underground group – for helping out with this testing.

As this is the beta/test version of my website and distribution system, I’m expecting to make small changes & corrections to these during this period – so any feedback would be much appreciated!

When I get a sufficient number of orders, this discount rate will be removed.
Of course, after the discount rate and the login feature are removed, the products will still be available at the regular price.

My books have received nice endorsements by Chris Kamaka, Willie K., Lyle Ritz, Dr. Amy Stillman, Dr. Kamuela Ka’ahanui & Patrick Landeza. Please help yourself to see all of these on the website.

Mahalo nui loa & have fun learning fingerpicking!

I bought both 1 and 2. The ability to hear the songs via MP3 on the various sample pages sold me.

Hi, The books look great. the price on your website, is that the discounted price? I am interested in both book 1 and 2. Do you want input. I thought the website was good accept for one thing. I would like to have the samples of the book larger so I can actually read it, particularly the table of contents. Other than that it is good and the books look great! Good work

I didn't like that much of the actual content is put into an iframe so I have to scroll both vertically and horizontally to view it, meanwhile wasting lots of other onscreen real estate at a resolution of 1440x900.

Whole thing worked fine on Google Chrome. No weird scrolling problems.

Hi, books look just down my street. Do the 26 bucks include international delivery (Europe)? What kind of covers and binding does it have?

Gipserio
02-12-2011, 09:58 AM
... please tell me they don't have wire binding as seen in the picture!

pekelo
02-12-2011, 11:18 AM
They have a coil binding which allows the books to be opened up flat
International shipping is different than USPS and a simple adjustment can be made
via Paypal
After you provide submitting your order, then my shipping company
will provide some international shipping options & cost options

I ordered mine. One suggestion for your site, could you add US Military FPO/APO addresses to your state drop-down menu on checkout? (Armed Forces Pacific, Armed Forces Atlantic, Armed Forces Middle East, etc). I know you have many other potential customers serving in uniform and this would make delivery much quicker than adding either NY or CA to the address. Thanks!

Pekelo - I was just going to let you know that you all the pages I saw showed the title "template". You might want to change that to more descriptive names (Pekelo's Home Page) etc before opening it up to the public. I ordered your 1st book though! - Mary

Hmm... up to now - previously, Vista was untested
but IE doesn't work & for now I don't have enough funds$ to make this work thru IE

but it works fine with Mozilla Firefox:)

Got book 1 in. Came real fast!

I'm not very far into it yet. There is a nice small part on the history of the ukulele, few things I didn't know in that, which was nice. The book so far is very thorough. Goes through tuning on each type of uke, as well as for lefty ukes. I've read up to the second song in the book. At this point it's all been pretty basic. Looking forward to seeing what else the book holds out. But even though it's been basic so far (and again, I'm only about 8-10 pages in maybe), you learn some songs, and get some new ideas out of it.

Been well worth it! I look forward to getting through it and then getting book 2!

I ordered book 1 and 2 using PayPal. I was using Google Chrome and noticed that I had to click the refresh shipping settings or something in order to get the option of which shipping to use. Once I selected it it took me to PayPal and I was able to check out successfully. I received and invoice from both Paypal and the website.

I can't wait to get the books!

I received mine a couple of days ago and having a ball with it thus far. I'm a total beginner (no prior musical instrument experience) so I'd highly recommend it.

BTW, Pakelo, my dad grew up in Waipahu many years ago. Waipahu HS Class of '54!

Mahalo nui loa/ much thanks to all the UU folks who helped out!
My site is now live - www.pekelosbooks.com
without any logins needed.

I've taught a lot of 'ukulele in the Northwest area for many years
but this is another way of extending teaching 'ukulele

Of course its been way more difficult & more costly publishing books
but hopefully - more folks can enjoy the instrument in a wider way

For those folks who ordered books (this is of course optional) please feel
free to provide any kind of feedback on the material & CD

For those who might be new to this - this book series allows you to learn
fingerpicking at your own pace. You can go as slow or as fast as you want to
& for most exercises and arrangements, there is a slow track and a faster track to
listen to and play along with.

I used a Tascom DP-01 for the initial recordings & used my mint condition
Martin tenor (which has aged beautifully:) for the uke recordings

Thinking of ordering, but wondering whether to jump into the second book first. I can do most of Ken Middleton's arrangements with little problem. Just do not want to waste my money on anything too simple.

Aloha Pekelo, just wanted to send you a big MAHALO for the work you've put into these books - they're great.

I ordered both the Level 1 and Level 2 books, even though in a lot of ways I no longer consider myself a beginner - I figured if it was too simple I could always pass the Level 1 on to a less experienced player.

But I was pleasantly surprised! The exercises in Level 1 have been great, especially the ones for timing, and having the tracks to play along with is actually a bit of a challenge since I'm usually a solo player or playing with a big group - keeping in time with the track is a very different experience.

In addition to the exercises, the arrangements are really nice. I really like the choice of material - some familiar, some more obscure, and all beautifully arranged.

Since I started playing a couple years back, I've accumulated quite a collection of uke books but I have to say that these are probably the best ones I've encountered yet. I'm really looking forward to books 3 and 4!
