just watched this vid on a left-leaning forum and read the comments. they were typical of leftist hate-speech (as opposed to rightist hate-speech, which is equally abhorrent to me). my take is this:
it seems to me that the proposed legislation is simply to cut federal funding for abortions, not to take the option away. if I'm wrong, please point me to some links and I'll happily change my mind.
I'm all for freedom of choice, I'm not so much for tax dollars paying for each and every one of them.
in blunter terms, of course abortion should be legal (and safe!), but making folks pay for something they don't agree with chafes me somewhat. I feel the same way about my dollars going towards useless wars and/or propping up tin-pot tyrants.

I really don't want to get all politico here, and I respectfully understand that everyone has their own opinion. But currently proposed legislation goes well beyond not spending tax dollars on abortion. That has been in effect since 1976 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hyde_Amendment
The current legislation is way more far reaching than that, in my understanding, and takes away tax deductibility for employers contributing to private health plans that cover abortion, and changes the rules for hospitals, making it legal for them to deny lifesaving care to pregnant women that would include terminating a pregnancy.
While discussing the ways in which I may feel this is wrongheaded are not suited to a ukulele forum, that this pending legislation is a significant blow to reproductive rights in America should be pointed out.
