The truoil finish has really made the maple look three-dimensional...

Thanks folks - I can't do a sound sample as the customer came over as quick as he could to snaffle this uke back home with him!

Yes the spruce top is as thin as I dared, which paid off in terms of sound - it's up there with the best I've done to date..

The background to the pics is a lot of spruce I bagged recently - it was bring sold off as brace material for steel string guitars. It's offcuts from the split wedges formed for resawing into guitar soundboards. It's perfectly quartered and about a third of it is bearclaw - stay tuned!!

I like the bridge.......I like the Uke...Great stuff Rob...Or as us "Yorkshire lads" say ...."Ey That'le doo":D

I have recently become enamored at the special sound of these spruce/maple instruments.
Lovely uke, wish I could hear and play.

Nice job on this uke. I too find the notes on the spruce tops sound just a little more clear, almost like the koa tops sound just a very little muddy in comparison. If I had to describe it I would say the spruce tops sound a little more like a tuning fork for a given note. It could be I'm just getting all I should from the Koa or that I have run load tools all my life and can't hear.

Hi Ken, put it this way - Dibbs' face lit up from the first note he played on it!

It's built like a beefed-up soprano and that's hopefully how it sounds, punchy, but with much more sustain and presence. It's also very loud, which seems to be a common theme with my softwood-topped ukes..

Very Beautiful wood! love it!

It looks stunning, Rob. Very stylish. How does it sound?

It really is stunning to look at and Rob's description of the sound is pretty accurate. I'll do a recording before too long and post it here as well as on the Cosmos.

I now have 3 concerts that are all great in their own way yet sound very different from each other; A G-String, a Howlett (Vita) and this one.

wow...wow...wow...
The uke sounds so sweet and the music you guys played is so beautiful.

Love it! I'm betting it sounds as beautiful as it looks.
