Best Cases?

I have a friend who has a particularly special ukulele and he has asked me what cases out there can provide outstanding protection. I told him I would ask the experts......so, please help me.

His uke is an early Hawaiian soprano. A case that has a built in humidifier would be great. I appreciate any suggestions!

They are not cheap, and they are on the heavy side, but Ameritage cases are wonderful.
The gold series has a humidifier. http://www.ameritagecases.com/listing.php?cat=Gold_Series&line=Ukuleles
The silver ones don't but are less expensive. http://www.ameritagecases.com/listing.php?cat=Silver_Series&line=Ukulele

If they can wait a bit, Kamoa is coming out with some fiberglass cases soon that are very light and seem to be nice. No humidifier in them though.

Oops! The reply above mine was not there when I started typing my reply! Good thing, since my second link failed for some reason.

Ahh, yes....Ameritage, those look pretty darn nice! Thanks so much....any other ideas or cases people really love which are very, very protective?

Check out GATOR cases. They are great cases and inexpensive. I have two and would buy another if I was looking for a case.

Ameritage cases are AWESOME but be aware they are big and very heavy.

As far as everyday hard cases, Collings has about the best I have seen. Anyone know who makes them? I haven't seen anything similar offered for sale without the Collings mark...

O'ahu and Ko'olau cases (both by Ko'olau) are great - I use a Ko'olau. They're sized slightly differently, so you just have to check to see which would be the best fit. No built in humidifier but plenty of room to put a humidifier in the case. Very sturdy and well made.

I really like my Ameritage Gold Series cases. They are really heavy and not very portable due to the weight (I don't own a soprano Ameritage, so perhaps those are more manageable), but they provide great protection. It would be more accurate to say that it has a humidifier chamber that allows you to put in whatever humidifier you use and the chamber has vents to help channel the moisture. It does come with one Herco type humidifier, but I always put more in there. You can order a custom built Ameritage case from Fine Cases if the instrument have non-standard dimensions or if you want a different color combination than the stock case.

I have one of these, and look, it's on sale!

It is perfectly good, and you don't have to spend the price of a great uke to get one. It is not as well made as the others on this thread probably are, but it serves the same purpose very well, and looks good too!

I use that same case for my ukuleles and it is really sturdy. MGM sells them for about the same price.

Thanks for all the suggestions. This ukulele is a museum quality uke, but my friend isn't looking for a wall case. He wants something that is really protective. I have sent him a link to this thread so he can look into what will work best for him.

Thanks everyone!
