I have been looking for a uke that i can take hiking and camping with me. I need one that is fairly cheap but decent sound, and something thats going to be as resistant as possible to weather and water since i often kayak to camping spots. just a rugged uke if thats possible.

Everyone will tell you this over and over and over: Flea/Fluke. And for good reason. They're a tad expensive but they are WORTH it.

I definately second the Makala Dolphin, cheap and plays well. And it comes in lots of great colors.
If you are able to tweak (set up) your own, the Rogue from Musiciansfriend is the low price leader. About $25.00 delivered and a pretty good player as well but the factory set up and QC seems to be rather variable.

If the Dolphin feels too cheap and the Fluke/Flea is too expensive, a good in-betweener is Mainland's new ABS ukes:

They're made of plastic with a spruce top so they're very tough.
I got to try one out - it's the brightest, most trebley sounding soprano I've ever used.

Take a look at the Mainland Chili/Gecko...awesome ukes for the money and the body is molded abs!

If you could afford it then I would go with a Flea or a Fluke.

My vote is for a resonator uke. They're a little heavy, but they can take a beating. I live in Florida and leave it in my car with no problems at all.
