That's a great song. Your version definitely has a style all its own. Good job. I have to cover it someday myself. I think I first heard it on a Ramblin Jack Elliot album.

I heard tell it was written by Joe Ely, He had been visiting a Billy the kid museum
and was sorely disappointed that the only thing it contained were some old wagon
wheels and some rusty nails, and nothing really about Billy the kid, so he there
and then decided to write him a song to give him a bit of history. It has all the
elements of a good song, love triangle, poor anger management, deceit, unfaithfulness
and betrayal.

The song has such exquisite details... consciences ticking away like a silver wind up pocket watch.
