Help convince me that there is a better way to spend my $340.00.

koa pili koko, convinced?

Possibly, but there is almost no info on these things and the only shop that carries them is on e-bay (I'm pretty solidly against real businesses who only sell via e-bay).

I'd love more info on 'em.

Bro, just contact MGM and check out his store on eBay! as far as ukuleles go (and also a variety of other stringed instruments) he is as legit as they get. there's probably no one better at what he does.

MGM. 'nuff said.

tululele, sounds cool hahaha but i dont like them.

and yeah
the one aldrine uses isn't custom, i dunno about the strings though, i think he got it from MGM... aldrines one is probably ryan's anyway

... ryan tell me if you want me to remove the vids, sorry for using them :nana:

well if you really want the original design not the chinese copy then please buy this......the originals were made by my friend Joel Eckhouse and ripped off by some other company. the sound also puts k wave to shame and i sell k-waves

Awesome advice - the Earnests do look a like a better instrument. Of course now I'm hung up on the idea of the pili koko;)

I have a Koa Pili Koko soprano...it sounds great. Aldrine played his buddy's tenor and gave it a good review too. Try Bob's Ukuleles in Waikiki. That's where I got mine.

I love my K-Wave. I had a change to play a couple telecaster models and 2 Les Paul ones. The difference in the sound of each uke was drastic, even between the two telecasters. I bought the best sounding one, which was a butterscotch.

The Chinese made Kiwaya K-wave Rock ukes are good ukes for what they are. The major thing about these are that they sound pretty good acoustically as well as plugged in. You can hear one here:

Be sure to get the telecaster model if you think you'll ever be playing it acoustically, like the one you have pictured in your post. The K-Wave Les Paul model sounds terrible acoustically - like a toy. Plugged in it's pretty good, and here's WS64 playing one plugged in here, and it sure doesn't sound like the K-Wave las Paul I played in the store!!!

Now the Kala Mango Tenor shot to the top of the list - anyone know if these things are solid or laminate?

I have a Kala Mango Tenor and mine is definatly laminate, so I would go out on a short limb and say they are laminate. They may have changes to solid but I got mine in March so I doubt it would change mid year. They are very pretty ukes and the sound is decent, but you could probably find a solid wood uke for the same price.

From MGM's ebay description
#
MANGO body and headstock cap
#
Solid Mahogany bindings and neck

I agree there.

I am going to have to respecfully disagree with you deach. In the discription it says Mango body, not Solid mango. I did not see anything about a solid body anywhere in the discription. In most of MGM's other instruments it says solid somewhere in the discription, if it is solid body or soundboard. It says solid mahagany bindings and I can agree with that but I beleive we were asked about the body and/or soundboard, since that has alot to do with the sound the uke produces.

I still think you are cute though. ;)
