And ME! I'm a friend of Seeso's in Chicago (been here for 10 1/2 yrs) but I'm originally from Hawaii and went to high school w/ Jason Arimoto (facemeltingukulele). I actually took over the blues club from Jason since he was class of '99 and I was '00.

You can download my album for FREE @ http://ryansuzuka.bandcamp.com/ - It will say "name your own price" but you can simply put "$0" and then you can download it.

I currently have a song featured on Play Uke Vol. 1 - http://playuke.info/cd-liner-notes/ - which was just released this week and will be sold at the Reno-Tahoe Uke Fest going on this weekend. The CD was designed to show a nice variety of what the ukulele can do and features some artists on the list above. The liner notes describe me as in the style of Jason Mraz and Amos Lee...both of whom I don't listen to. I'm more of an indie styled writer in the vein of Basia Bulat, Rilo Kiley, Camera Obscura with hints of Skip James, Son House and Gillian Welch.

I also play harmonica for last season's American Idol runner up Crystal Bowersox. Although she didn't take me to SXSW b/c she got John Popper guest. haha. So yeah, understandable.

Also, I'll be playing a show in Chicago next month w/ an artist visiting from Alabama who goes by Helen Kellers Ukulele http://www.myspace.com/helenkellersukulele She does in fact play ukulele. ha. I'm looking forward to seeing her play for the first time.

Hope this finds you well,

If you can provide a URL (YT, FB, Home Page) for the artist, It would be very much appreciated. I wanna provide a link associated with the artist/group/band. For example: Aldrine Guerrerro (his YT is ukuleleoversoul), when you click on his name, it'll take you to his YT page. Please have a little patience so I can get this list together.

Benny Chong. Doesn't have his own channel but here is a sample of what he can do.

Check out the use of the thumb for impossible fretboard spanning chord grips. Happens for the first time about 30 seconds in.
There's a brief bio on My Space here: http://www.myspace.com/ukulelejazz

Also Peter Moon's son, Peter Moon, Jr., is a player. He takes a solo at about the 1:30 mark here:

Since I suggested Benny Chong, I would be remiss not to add Byron Yasui and Gordon Mark.

To say that the influence of these three on Jake S. was HUGE, would be an understatement.

Here's Byron: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MUdfPCVqVMI
Byron with Benny: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uzWJA_q9qdg
Byron with Benny and Bryan Tolentino:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8HZ_CLnd8lU
(bonus on the last one Chris Kamaka on bass, Jake behind them and joining tuning conversation,
and a glimpse of a very young Taimane Gardner)

Gordon Mark accompanying Pops Ko'Aloha: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=afycdBOyqVs

Jason Arimoto** didn't migrate to the new list.

Troy's on the list, but not his bands. Ka'au Crater Boys http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aA9thAbRndk and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dMNuXIgcx6Y and the legendary epic Hot Hawaiian Nights show

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cY9Lw_P5Wgw
Palolo: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3PiNzdC0H0Q I'll bet Troy, Nathan, and Chino (TNC)
all appreciate the slimming effect of this one.

I'd like to add my uke music to the list. I've been recording a uke fusion CD and with the help of fellow musicians I've been blending in a lot of modern day instruments. Drums, electric guitars/bass, flute, synthesizers etc. I'd love to see the uke go more mainstream as it is such an awesome instrument! My music is a mix of rock, indie, flamenco, and a bit of jazz. http://www.scottstahlecker.com Check out a few songs when you get a chance and tell me what you all think.

Please add me (Ronin Wong) I've played in large gigs around Vancouver, including the Winter Olympics, and other city events in and around the Greater Vancouver region. Also, I'm pioneering the creation of large ukulele video collaborations. The two I've done have featured from 40 to 70 different ukulele players from around the world.

oh really? pioneering?

I didn't mean I started it. There's only been a few out there. I think there are less than 10 really large ones., seeso, John, and Sebi, Without their work, I wouldn't have had the idea to do it. But, I think we are still in the early stages. I think we are just barely starting out. I look forward to seeing the others yet to come. Are there more of these I haven't heard about? I thought pioneering was a perfectly cromulant term.

I would like to add my fledgling indie band, The FreeFallers :) All of our songs feature ukulele and have a distinctly upbeat tone. We are working on getting our current written material to live-show quality, and working on recording our first EP. (For those of you who remember the first "single" we threw together, we have polished that up with ACTUAL vocals recorded, and will be re-recording the ukulele now that we have a better one available.)

Also, I'm attempting to throw together a solo "act" under the name Phil The Uker :P I'll be working on doing some local gigs and open mic nights, and also an acoustic album of FreeFaller's songs that I've written, and my own personal stuff.

Thanks so much!

I just spotted this thread. Good uke leads here. I've been listening a lot to a band I recently ran across. I mentioned them the other day in the video section here the site. Band name is Wild Child and feature ukulele, violin, cello, banjo etc. and a pair of voices that sound great together. Maybe 7 members or so. They write some very interesting songs. Been together about a year I think, and spring from the Austin club scene. Here's a link to the music section of their website:

Danielle is a ukulele player/singer/songwriter and sometimes fronts a band consisting of upright bass, violin and ukulele. She does great covers and writes some dang good songs. you need to add Willie K, Ernie and John Cruz, as swell as Imua and Bruno Mars. Do not forget Eddie Vedder!

I realize the List hasn't been updated for some time. Hopefully, I'll find time to do so but with the Holidays rapidly approaching, this may be difficult. I've also been busy with other things so in the meantime, please be patient. Much Mahalos for understanding . . .

I'd like to submit my band - we're an indie rock band from Texas, and I play electric ukulele and Farfisa organ in it. The uke is all over our sound, and on our debut EP.

I'd be really grateful is you'd add me. You have my previous band (The Re-entrants) on there (thanks!), but nowadays I'm performing solo - www.phildoleman.co.uk

As much as I personally dislike this band, I would feel remiss if I did not mention them somewhere on this forum for the benefit of those who might find them interesting.

SUPERCUTE!, a band featuring Rachel Trachtenburg, Julia Cummings, and (formerly) June Lei on ukuleles. The words "psych," "indie," and "bubblegum" are variously used to describe their sound. They should have an album forthcoming. Not to my taste, but I hope that someone else might garner some enjoyment from their musical stylings.

I was listening to the radio today (KROQ in Los Angeles) and they metioned Vance Joy and his uke has a CD coming out today. I didn't think too much of him and looked up one of his songs titled "Riptide". Wow, it has over 40 Million views on YT as it's been awhile since a song featuring a uke could be this popular. Some of you might be happy to know that he's Australian.
