And ME! I'm a friend of Seeso's in Chicago (been here for 10 1/2 yrs) but I'm originally from Hawaii and went to high school w/ Jason Arimoto (facemeltingukulele). I actually took over the blues club from Jason since he was class of '99 and I was '00.
You can download my album for FREE @
http://ryansuzuka.bandcamp.com/ - It will say "name your own price" but you can simply put "$0" and then you can download it.
I currently have a song featured on Play Uke Vol. 1 -
http://playuke.info/cd-liner-notes/ - which was just released this week and will be sold at the Reno-Tahoe Uke Fest going on this weekend. The CD was designed to show a nice variety of what the ukulele can do and features some artists on the list above. The liner notes describe me as in the style of Jason Mraz and Amos Lee...both of whom I don't listen to. I'm more of an indie styled writer in the vein of Basia Bulat, Rilo Kiley, Camera Obscura with hints of Skip James, Son House and Gillian Welch.
I also play harmonica for last season's American Idol runner up Crystal Bowersox. Although she didn't take me to SXSW b/c she got John Popper guest. haha. So yeah, understandable.
Also, I'll be playing a show in Chicago next month w/ an artist visiting from Alabama who goes by Helen Kellers Ukulele
http://www.myspace.com/helenkellersukulele She does in fact play ukulele. ha. I'm looking forward to seeing her play for the first time.
Hope this finds you well,
Ryan Suzuka
