Hey guys, I was thinking of getting a pick up installed in my uke. Will this affect/alter the sound when I play it unplugged?

Not significantly..if there is any change, you probably won't notice it.
It will alter the action (string height) since you're putting a piezo strip under the saddle, unless you sand some of the saddle too.
I don't mean to hijack the thread, but I did have a question about pickups too.
It seems you can buy the pickup part (piezo) that goes under the saddle separately. They seem to come with the strip that has the piezo, and a small jack that's supposed to connect to the pre-amp (if there is a preamp).
So if I had a uke with a built in pre-amp, but I just want to replace the piezo strip... does it just pull out if I remove the saddle and pull the existing piezo out of the hole in the bridge where the line goes in?
