I am currently using my son's Zoom H4, but he has rekindled his interest in playing guitar and wants it back again. This happened once before and didn't last long, but I want to encourage him playing. So, I am in the market for a good microphone.

I have a question about the Zoom H2. I mostly use the H4 as a USB mic into Audacity, where I mix. I like being able to monitor the previously recorded tracks while I lay down a new one. Singing harmony with yourself is difficult without this feature. The H4 lets me do this very easily. That is, I can set Audacity to play back previous tracks in the H4's headset, while also hearing the new track as I am recording it. My question is, can I do this with the H2?

I am also considering just buying a Tascam DP-004 instead, and using it to lay down all my tracks, then transfer everything to Audacity for final EQ, reverb, normalization etc.

OK. I found the answer on the audacity forum. Apparently the H2 functions just as the H4 does in this regard.
