Guitar to Uke the easy way?

If I have guitar chords for a song and I want to play it on the Uke I could look at my capo chart (guitar) and see what the key would be if I placed my capo at the fifth fret and played in the original chord shape?

So if the guitar key was C I would play in the key of G on the Uke?

If the guitar key was D I would play in A for the Uke?

If there are sharps, flats, minors etc, just through those on the letter. That is if you start with a C7 and count up 5 you get G7.

That is what I didn't get, you have to count the letter you start with!

Arghh!!! - The table I gave you is wrong. You have to count the sharps and flats too as you move up. So, you move up 5 half tones for each string. The counting table looks like this:

A A# B C C# D D# E F F# G G# A A#

Taking this into account gives you the following table (I hope lol):

Guitar Uke

A --> D
B --> E
C --> F
D --> G
E --> A
F --> Bb (A#)
G --> C

In other words move up 5 semitones each time and don't count the chord you started with.

I may be missing something here,but surely if the
key on the guitar is in 'C' then you would play a 'C'
on your ukulele? You don't need to transpose or change
a thing,just play! I had a songbook from my guitar days
with over 600 songs in it,and when I switched to ukulele
I just played the same chords that I had written.Easy!

You were exactly eight the first time, Seagull. Imagine that you have taken the top 2 strings off your guitar, and placed a capo on the 5th fret. Your G guitar chord shape becomes a C uke chord.
