I'm trying to wade through many "how to play" DVD's on the 'net..

This will be for my dad, who is older and has no music experience.

Something with basic chords and a few songs to learn would be great.

Thoughts, suggestions?

thanks!

Hey I bought one teach yourself DVD called The Joy of Uke 1 by Jumpin' Jim Beloff. I watched 5 minutes of it then found ukuleleunderground.com and never looked back. Is there anyway your Dad can get access to the site? I found Aldrine's tutorials much better than anything else I've found so far.

I'll second Aldrine's lesson vid's here at Ukulele Underground.
And here also http://www.iamhawaii.com/videos/search?searchshow=Ukulele+Lessons&class=show

As for DVD's the one I have found most helpful to me is "Essential Strums for the Ukulele" by Ralph Shaw.
It comes with a great chord chart and a booklet of songs with chords that he uses for examples of the different strums he is teaching you to play.

I have this same DVD lurking around my house too -- I thought it was informative and well assembled.

Jake's Play Loud DVD is real good... he gives about 10+ quick lessons and then demonstrates it in a super quick jam. Then he does a tutorial on playing the beatles "yesterday". Good stuff! I highly recommend it! Then there's also footage of him throwin down @ a concert w/ his band in japan or somethin. bit of rock n jazz... pretty killer!
