View Full Version : How to make time stop.

Have you ever noticed how time slows down when you have a new uke coming? All you have to do is order a new uke, have UPS or DHL deliver it, and time nearly stops. I mean seriously, five days could NOT possibly go slower. Maybe by this reasoning, as long as I have a new uke on the way, I can live forever.....:(

Another one? Whadjaget?

Well I needed a tuner, and Bushman had the one I wanted, and It just seemed like such a waste to expend all that energy making a phone call just for a tuner, so I said they might as well throw in a uke....

I love to see how this "UAS vs. time vacuum" thing rubs off on unsupecting bystanders, turning them into socially impaired manic wrecks. Before you know it, you have a flock of ukelelists F5-ing your thread for the next 5 days.

LOL! I've got three on my wishlist - probably four after I hear your Bushman! The only thing stopping me is that I'm going to Hawaii in September, and if I buy one now, I can't buy one there.

I have two on my wish list.

I have several on my "yeah, I am going to try that one too" list.

I think if I can just get this one more (pineapple soprano) I will be fine, and I wont need anymore. After all, I can't quit anytime I want to. I just don't want to. It's not like I NEED it....really.....cause I dont. :p

Pineapple soprano! So when are you getting that? I'd be interested to hear you play a soprano.

Imagine if your family and friends tried to hold an "intervention".... hahaha... that would suck, and from that point forward, I would not have any family, or friends.....:D

Hey, that's a good idea Michelle! If I order that now, I can cut down the time between deliveries!!! (that is what you were suggesting, wasn't it?)

Yep, less time sitting on the curb waiting for the UPS man :)

Although of course we don't then get the full benefit of all the videos made with the new ukulele if they both come together, so scrap that idea - wait at least a week :D

Just get the family and friends hooked too, then you've got more ukuleles to play. :D

..so I ordered my uke from MGM on the 16th of July and have been watching it's progress around the world, daily checking in on the USPS site to see how it is getting on.

Days and days in British customs.

On Friday they attempted delivery to my work address at 8.29am, 11 minutes before I arrived.

It has been a slow week but I can't describe the turgidity of the weekend.

Not only that, I'm not at work today, I am taking some holiday so it will have to sit on my desk until I get back...

I thought this thread was a bit too much about those who already have but want more (no offense), but your story is a real TRAGEDY! Just imagine you, arriving at 8:40, a little sleepy still, walking to the coffee machine to get a cup, then you walk towards your desk to see a small yellow note on it. An small squirt of adrenaline, but then you see it's the "We delivered but you weren't home" note and the adrenaline causes a slight panic attack. You quickly look out the window, but only the colleague who is always late parking his bicycle outside.

Then that colleague walks in, comes up to your desk for the daily talk you never want him to get you involved in, and says: "Did you just see that delivery truck? What is he doing here at this hour???"

The next thing, all you see is a red haze followed by a soothing black nothing...

I don't even wait for the note from customs. Once the post office site says it's there, I head there and say it's there, go look for it. Luckily they always do, some nicer and more understanding than others. :)

The last time I went there to pick up my Oahu case, the nice customs lady mentioned they had gotten a few of these ukes already this summer. ;)

I think I ordered strings once from MGM, or was it a humidifier or something small, and I got a uke as well, just to round it out. If I spot a guy outside walking around in slow motion, I'll know it's you. :)

I decided to slip back into the fast track and today I unwrapped my new uke.

I am trying to write health and safety documents, terms and conditions contracts and hire principles for non industry practitioners and I am doing my nut because as previously described by ukeninja the object of all my desire was beyond my grasp and I was having the dullest day of my life. So, following the example from helsinki, I went out and found the depot and got my parcel.

Nicely packed and sorted by MGM (who was great at answering all my faintly stupid questions with good humour) I bought the Ohana sk 35 deal he has at the moment. You who own those $3000 ukes have never been happier than I am right now with the packaging all over my office floor and the new uke shimmering on my desk.

Good lord it is a beautiful thing to hold a ukulele that sounds like a real musical instrument.

Life splashes back into full speed.

No pics as I have no camera here and no videos because I can't play for toffee but I just wanted to share the great time I am having.

I am having the best day ever.

Lots of it to you all.

Now, let me see....how does Hal leonard do the F sharp ninth on the tenth fret....?

Congrats, and I'm glad you finally got it out of capitivity. Those Ohanas are stunning!

I'm fighting a bad case of uke lust right now for the Kala jazz tenor. I don't need it, but I wants it, and I'm trying to reason with myself that it doesn't have to be right at this second.

I called Canada Post to see when it would be released (fat lot of good that does!).
I'm still waiting.
11 days and counting.

Mine was sent Priority USPS.

I've got a tracking number, but a USPS tracking number is updated less than my Myspace profile. It's not going to change past "accepted" until it's already delivered.
Today was the earliest I might have expected it to arrive.
I knew it wasn't because I had a really really short work day.
I was home before noon.

Which means tomorrow is going to drag on and on....

The most fun is that now the USPS and Finnish tracking systems no longer work well together. On the USPS system it'll say it's out cleared customs, and then that there's been a delivery attempt. What actually happens is that, sometime later, the Finnish system is updated to reflect that it went through customs, was not cleared, and is now either on its way or arrived at the customs office at the main post office.

That can be confusing if someone is sending something to you and they think it's been delivered, or if you've been using just the USPS tracking system and think the delivery guy didn't even ring the doorbell.

It just makes the time slow down more is all. :)

So Im at work and I get on DHL's website to track my package, (like I do 43 times a day). Well to my surprise it says "Delivered". Huh? how can it be delivered...Im at work....there is no one at my apartment. So I call them, and they say "yup, it's been delivered, the guy left it on your doorstep". REALLY, YOU LEFT MY NEW UKE ON MY DOORSTEP?????? so I had to drive the 12 miles home on my lunch break to rescue it. And, amazingly, it was still there!!!!! Yay....more to come.....:D

I get mine delivered to my office. Makes for interesting conversation with customers, but I'm assured someone's here to accept it.

My Reso Relic moved from Customs to the hands of the post office after 3-and-a-half days in Customs while they tried to figure it out. That was late last night it was finally released.

Now I wait some more.

It's a two-hour drive from the warehouse to my store, but I'll bet it takes the post office three days to get it here.

Waiting.
Patiently waiting.
Twiddling thumbs.
Trying to avoid temptation to check tracking website every 15 minutes.
Did I mention this waiting is good for developing your Buddhist sense of patience and stoic acceptance of samsara?
Waiting...
Breathe deeply.
Wait some more.
