My son is graduating in June and his senior class song is Stand By Me so I would like to play this for him. I found these tabs below last night and started working out the chords but I am not sure of a good strum pattern. I started looking at how to chunk but haven't had a chance to practice but would love to hear some strum patterns that are newbie friendly (only 4 months playin'). I believe the song tempo is 4/4 right? Thanks in advance.

you can mute the second Down. sounds nicer for this song than a chunk. so: DXUUDU

I would just do a plain ol' eighth-note strum, with chunks on beats 2 and 4...

Code:
D U X U D U X U
1 & 2 & 3 & 4 &

If you want to hear an example, I do that same sort of strum here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u3DRGhntapE

It's a bit faster than you'd probably want to do it for "Stand By Me", but it gives you the basic idea.

That is some cool motown and way past my skill level in strummin' and specially singing which I am not sure I will ever be able to do no matter how much I practice. Thanks for the tip and off to the practice room;)
