What are ukulele PLUG INS ??....

I suspect I know what PLUGINS are, but I'm not too sure.
Does a plugin enhance or give a different sound when used?
I've just ordered a Lanikai 21BE Baritone uke which has the accoustic connections and I'd like to get more info on what are the sounds can be had with plugins.

And, would there be some way I could HEAR what are the sounds that plugins make?

I'd really appreciate any info.

Usually plugins are effects (chorus, reverb, distortion, etc) that are loaded onto your computer and utilized by your recording software to change the sound.

I thought they were one way to deal with balding headstocks.

I assume you mean a pickup? The little hole on the bridge side of the body where you would plug the instrument cable? The goal with a pickup is to just make the 'ukulele louder (through an amp or PA). That seldom happens due to quality factors (but most pickups get close even though they each might color the tone a bit). The advantages of the pickup is 1. you can make you 'ukulele louder, and 2. you can use effects (make it sound like an electric guitar).
