There are a lot of PE pickups out there and a lot of you tube videos about installing them. I have tried this and The first one I did was a Shatten pickup on a Fender Nohea Tenor. I was nervous about drilling the hole but it worked and the pickup was fairly easy to install. I was pleased with the result so I bought an AXL pickup($15) and installed it in a Lanakai Concert Uke. I really liked the sound on this. Then I bought some Radio Shack PE transducers and endpin connectors. THEY AREN'T THE SAME. They really had terrible sound so I pulled them out and put AXL's in and again I was pleased with the sound. I even have an AXL with a suction cup and a 10 foot cable on the back of a diatonic autoharp I rebuilt.
Has anyone else had any experience with PE transducer pickups. I just can't afford to put the ones that are in the 50 to 100+ dollar range. But with a pickup the uke sounds so much better.
