Alright, hi everyone. I'm new to UU, and I just got my first ukulele it is a Kala brand uke. I dont know much about ukes and am wanting to learn more. I was just wondering if you guys can give me some guidelines and what i should learn from the bottom up. thank you in advance.

Best would be to get a beginners book, Steven sproat's book was very clear and quite entertaining:

If you can't afford a book, try youtube for a simple song like

Five foot two eyes of blue.... not the simplest song but it will teach you some basic chords which you can apply to a lot of songs.

You'll find chord boxxes:
left =higher (top) string right (lower) = lower string

Try to practice your strumming a lot, make it smooth ... it will take a couple of weeks. Singing may distract you.

Welcome to UU.
I have been playin for 9 weeks now!!!!

Start by reading all the threads on this site.

Learn to tune, get a clip on tuner like the Kala tuner from musicguymic, makes it easy.

Get a book, I really like "Ukulele Method book 1" by Lil' Rev it the best I think and comes with a CD to play to. (I have 6 different books)

Get the "Discovering the Ukulele" and "Exploring the Ukulele" by Herb Ohta and Daniel Ho books (over my head but I am learning what is in them)

Get "Essential Strums for the Ukulele" video by Ralph Shaw, lots of different strum patterens to play along with.

Watch all of Aldrine Vid's here on UU (most are over my head but they help me understand stuff and he is a great player.

Get a chord chart you can carry around to use for all the songs you will print off the internet.

Start easy then play hard!!!!!!!
Have fun!!!!!!

Congratulations ad welcome aboard! You took the most important two steps so far -- you got a good uke, and you signed on at UU! Be sure to check out all the videos (Lessons, Uke Minutes, and anything with Manny da rooster) from the main site -- beyond that, a trip thru our forums should open plenty of doors to keep you busy for quite a while.

Have fun!
