Your wandering around, thoughts too scattered, no binding. When you write, first reduce the story you want to tell to one sentence, then don't get off that thought. Take the Eagles "Lying Eyes" for instance. Can be reduced: to Pretty girl, sells out soul for money then cheats cause can't deal with decision and lonliness. Once the hook, "lying Eyes" was found, the rest was easy.

I wrote a song once about an old man greiving for his lost wife and not being able to get past the loss. Chorus went:

All alone in an old country graveyard
In the midst of the garden of stone
He comes in the quiet of the evening
Just to sit and talk to her all alone
