Help.. Major7??

Kind of a noob question... haha

What is the difference between chords such as Amaj7 and A7
... or chords like Cmaj7 and C7??

so can u help me??
Both seem like they should be the same

A7 and D7 are Dominant 7th chords. The Maj7's move the dominant 7th note a half-step up, so:

ex.
D7 - 2223
Dmaj7 - 2224

A slightly different way to look at it.

The Dominant 7th chords take the 7th note of the scale and flatten it (i.e. move it down a half step) while the Major 7th chords leave it alone.

Key of C: C D E F G A B (C)

Seventh note is a B. In the Dominant 7th (C7) you use Bb. (0001) In the Major 7th (Cmaj7) you use B. (0002)
