I'll be in England (mostly London) in September. Any recommended msuic stores that have a good selection of ukuleles? I'd like to stop in and take a look. Will be up in the north, too, probably driving to the Lake District through Manchester.

I used Southern Ukulele Store in the south west, I think it's Dorset or Devon, but either way it's probably out of your way. There's also Eagle Music, which I think is near London, Bazmaz is the one to ask, he knows this kind of stuff!

Hope you enjoy your trip!

The Southern Ukulele Store is in Bournemouth,
or maybe Christchurch which is a suburb of
Bournemouth.I have dealt with them and found
them to be excellent for value and service.
And I am in NO way connected with them!
Just a happy and satisfied customer!

Eagle Music is in Huddersfield.

Damn, there's a coincidence. I was going to ask exactly the same thing, but I'd definitely prefer a Manchester/North west place. Forsyth's in Deansgate, Manchester have a lot listed on their website at a wide range of prices. Anyone have any experience of them?

Any of these in London? Will also be in Blackpool, it seems... and I'll be staying in Richmond, not London itself...

Erm, no. Not so far.

Richmond is one of the outer suburbs of London, with the excellent trains and tube system there you'll be able to access pretty much the whole of the capital easily enough of there are any good suggestions forthcoming.

Edit. Oh, and give Blackpool a miss, it's a proper shonky old shite hole, (IMHO). Go with your first instinct and visit the Lake District instead.

If you are in London, try Duke of Uke. If youre in Manchester try Forsyths and Hobgoblin. And I would also advise you not to go to Blackpool, there are much nicer places in this part of the world.

As Wire-uke said I would certainly reccomend the Duke of Uke in Spitalfields, London. I have never got there myself and am not associated with them myself but from what I know of the shop it sounds like a great little shop which also runs uke lessons, get-togethers and even (I think) has a recording studio in the building. It would also be great to visit this place as it is sadly closing soon as they are being evicted from their present premises, through no fault of their own. They are attempting to raise funds by selling a 5th year anniversary t-shirt, which is actually pretty cool so I got one, so that they can afford to find another premises.
If you're at all interested heres a link to the site; http://www.dukeofuke.co.uk/

Thanks. I'll keep watching this thread for more. I'm afraid I can't do anything about Blackpool, though. We've been invited to stay a few days with relatives.

In London if you go to Denmark St (off Tottenham Court Road) there are half a dozen shops, most of which will have ukes. However, they are over-priced and specialise mainly in guitars. But you could spend a pleasant hour trying them out and attempting to negotiate. The Duke of Uke (5mins walk from Liverpool St) is definitely the best.

Seems like I'll be in Hampton, not Richmond. Anything near there?

Also planning a trip north through Manchester to the Lake District. Anything on that route?
