Thanks for posting that! It was nice to see Vedder mention The Who's "Blue Red and Grey." I don't remember hearing that there was much buzz at the time about how a famous rock band like The Who had recorded a song featuring an ukulele. There are YouTube videos of both Pete Townshend (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hqWP7uDsjPo)(who played the ukulele in the original) and Roger Daltrey (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=re9PqnZljMo)accompanying themselves on the ukulele in their solo performances. Pearl Jam apparently performed Blue Red aand Grey, with Vedder on ukulele, in a 2003 concert in San Diego, but the video of it on YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JrJQt78KxUE)is actually a video of the five minutes before the band played the song, in which Vedder, ukulele in hand, talks to the audience about Jewel and an offer the band got to advertise for Viagra.

I don't either; I do remember buying By Numbers when it came out but I was a rock-and-roll-loving preteen at the time. I'm certain that my reaction was "Ew, a slow sweet song, blech!" and I would lift up the stylus and play Squeeze Box again :)

I was reacquainted with Blue, Red and Grey last year, learned to play it, and have played it every day since. To say it's now my all-time favorite ukulele song is an understatement!

Confession: I'm not a fan of Vedder's voice, so I'm still not really into the new album, but I love that he's mentioned BR&G in several of the interviews he's recently done. He seems like an all-around good guy, and I hope the new album does well.
