Hello,

I have been asked to present at a Pecha Kucha night where you present and talk about 20 slides in 7 minutes. My subject of choice is 19 (1st slide will be the title) reasons to play ukulele.

It'd be great if you all could help me with this, so it's not just my 19 reasons!

Thanks!

Pure fun. what else :D

Music is best when you are part of making it along with other people. The ukulele is the best tool out there for the average person to experience that.

It's so much fun... Do you really need more reasons! :) just kidding..
makes people smile
easy to transport
versatile
works well as a solo instrument or with a group of other ukers..

Have fun, this is the second time this week I have read about this Pecha Kucha. Like toastmasters with technology?

The reason I got a ukulele in the first place was portability. I wanted an instrument I could play at the river, at the beach, take on a hike, etc. The ukulele is perfect for this!

Because my chickens love it!
Hmmm- I bet I could come up with 19 pretty easy
19. Is is portable
18. It enjoys a great past, and a huge part of our history
17. Had it stayed a trend, the "Great Depression" would never have happened
16. (This one is for MIM)- sound holes smell good
15. They are relatively inexpensive
14. They fit everywhere
13. You can have a lot of them before anyone notices
12. Because Ukulele has rarely been a "popular" instrument, you can easily play anything you would like
11. Eugene Ukulele plays one
10. They are really cool to look at
9. You cannot help but smile when you play a uke
8. Even a beginner can make music on an ukulele quickly
7. Jimminy Cricket is cool
6. Ukes are cool (like bow ties...get it?)
5. Your spouse plays one
4. You aspire to be a rockstar, but can't take the burden of six strings
3. You were not given "those kind of fingers"
2. You like to make folks smile
and the number on reason to play an Ukulele-
1. It is a ton of fun

:agree: w/ all of those, Ukes ARE cool!n And fun! And portable! and easy to learn! And so much other cool stuff!

I read this one in a uke review:
"Chicks dig it, provided your into seventy year old chicks."

And so much other cool stuff!

please specify? not for me though. its for the OP's slides.

ive been on and off again on these forums, but what makes MY uke special is the feeling i get from picking i up after 2months 3 months 4, you get it right? it feels good to play the uke. especially when you have the right one. excuse ths tangent, but i wanted a kanilea tenor uke so badly that i saved and saved. but when i went into my local music store and picked up the kala concert, it was love at first sight. ANYWAYS, any uke you play will make people happy because its small and cute, but YOUR uke will last and cntinue to make you happy throughout the years!

hope this helped and good luck!

Thanks everyone so far! It's one thing to list my 19 reasons, but feel that for the purpose of the presentation it'd be good if I would to at least some research and hear what other people's reasons are to play ukulele. Keep them coming! Yes, I will also do a search here on the boards, as I am sure this topic has been covered several times, but with new members joining, I was interested to hear any new perspectives if they were out there.

Its hard to add anything meaningful to the exhausting list from the Ukulele Movement site, but maybe the old mountain climbing standby (with a slight addition) would summarize a couple:

"because I can (and so can you!)"
