I just now was able to sit down and unpack... my DaSilva uke!

Oh my gosh, it was all worth it. Yes, it was worth it to sell all my other ukes just to afford this one. I... love... it.

It's basically everything I've ever dreamed of. I got this instrument second-hand from the person who custom-ordered it from Mike. It's a copy of a Martin 3K, and it has some really neat touches, including abalone fretmarkers, its ivory parts are from an old piano (!), and it has peghead tuners. I would not change a thing about it. I am so happy to be playing a figure-8 soprano once again. I feel like this instrument was made for me, but that's absurd. Maybe I was made for it?? It's such a joy to play. The action is low and perfect, the tone sounds *amazing* (and I'll be changing out the Aquila bionylon strings tomorrow to Worth clears-- look out!). I just.... ahh, I can't get over it.

Without further ado, pictures:

So... what kind of case do you have for it?? And... still have a beater uke?! 'Cause you sure won't be heading to the beach too much w/ this pretty thing! (also, better up your home owner's or renters insurance).

OR... you could send it to me & I promise to give you visitation rights! :)

Isn't it though! I remember saying that when I bought my first Kamaka. Now I always end that sentence with the words "for now."

I think I believe you too :)

Some magical day, waaaaaaay in the future, when I can get a Santo/John King replica made for myself, I'll believe it when I say it too.

So... isn't that the way UAS works? I recently got home from a trip to Atlanta - I took my THREE "favorite" ukes with me. But... when Natalie posted the sale for your Kamaka Pineapple, my UAS came flaring up in SPADES! (almost glad it sold fast!)

This uke just keeps getting better and better! I restrung with Worth CMs today and OH MY GOSH, it sounds amazing!!! It was good with the Martin fluorocarbons (which I originally thought were Aquila bionylons but the previous owner corrected me), but the strings were two years old. I bow down to the artistry of Mike DaSilva. This ukulele is... I can't even describe. It's everything I've ever wanted and more.

I've decided to write a note to him describing how this ukulele came into my life. I think there's a touch of fate in the story: the person who commissioned to have the uke made, and then sold it to me, well... his last name means "fish" in another language. Not only are fish one of my favorite animals, I actually work with them and they are a huge passion for me. So I thought that was wonderful when I found it out!

As soon as the strings settle, I am going to make a video. Also, I'm now a fan of pegheads. I love those tuners!

That's a pretty cool story about the seller's name. Seems like the ukes both you and I came into this week really were meant to be :)

Yes! I remember seeing the salmon one a while back and thought, How crazy is that?!? The funny thing is, that uke sounds really really good which you wouldn't expect from a heavily painted uke.
