Anyone know how to convert a wood concert uke into a resophonic instrument? I know you can buy National cones with a biscuit bridge, but I don't know the conversion steps or what other supples you'd need...

The uke I'm considering converting is solid wood, but it is a cheapo - if it died in the process, I wouldn't be terribly heatrbroken...

I took my Repblic apart when it arrived. The cone needs a raised lip on which to rest, high enough to push the biscuit/bridge up above the soundboard.

I think most wooden ukes wouldn't have adequate bracing to hold a resonator cone. You'd have to build internal bracing that would keep the cone in place and hold it high enough. I think it would kill any inherent sound the wood provides.

You can buy the cone and bisicuit from National for about $60, but you might also contact Republic and ask them what they might charge.

Considering you can get a Republic for about $300 - is it worth the effort?

I doubt it's worth it to convert it - I'd just get a kick out of doing it...

I was thinking I could make a plywood structure within the the uke to supprt the cone and create a sound well.
