Anyone tried GCEA tuning on a Kala pocket uke? I understand the factory does not recommend it. Anyone with experience with this instrument? Thanks in advance for any input.

yes Gary, I've owned one. GCEA tuning works fine but is a bit dull and lifeless sound. Just not dynamic enough in my opinion.. Tension is a bit too loose and just doesn't sound right. Try it tuned to Eb (3 steps up) : BbEbGC. Even go up to 'F' tuning for a sharper tone still.

Basically, your uke will sing, have more resonance, volume and sustain tuned higher.

Tuning standard GCEA strings are way too loose - tuning octave up GCEA is obviously too tight - won't hold tune and strings break (yeah, I discovered it the hard way).
