19 votes thus far, I don't want to influence the voting by telling you what's in the lead, but at the moment there are two songs neck and neck!

Its crazy that both those songs are called "neck".

Great song. If I adapt the voicings from the Chet Atkins guitar version, it would probably make the most sense to do the song in C. There are some really neat patterns that start to emerge with some of the interval work - I can try to explain further if anyone else is trying this key.

Just as a refresher, here are the goals and rules from last time:

GOALS:

--Learn from others and how they approach figuring out songs
--Hear and see everyone´s individual takes on the same song
--Learn to figure out songs by ear and through repetition
--Share tips, tricks, and techniques for arranging instrumentals
--Expand our musical horizons, improve, and have fun doing it

RULES:

--No singing allowed!
--All experience levels most welcome!
--Multitracks allowed
--Multiple people allowed in one video

Remember, this challenge is completely open-ended, and once the song is chosen, you have free rein to make it as simple or complicated as you like, in any key. The only thing you cannot do is sing!

Yes, I readed it, but I supposed it meant multiple ukelele tracks. I was thinking about a harmonica, mandolin + ukelele or something like that. Is it allowd?

As the deadline approaches, I'll start a Results thread that everyone can post their videos to.

Yes, use whatever you'd like! Harmonica, uke, and mandolin your life away!

patrick, you need to post more, because you're awesome.

Thanks Tina though I really have a long way to go. These threads are a good motivator.

Anyway here is what I mean by patterns. For the words "eyes that know the darkness in..." - the Chet Atkins version plays that line in 3rds. On the ukelele it could be played like this:

|----------------------
|-8--7--5--3--5--7--8--
|-9--7--5--4--5--7--9--
|----------------------

I don't barre here - I use LH fingers 2&3 when the notes are on the same fret, 1&2 when they're on adjacent frets. See how the pattern pivots around the 5th and 7th fret position dots.

For the words "Now I think I..." (near the end) there's a pattern on different strings that also pivots around those position dots:

|-3--5--7--8--
|-------------
|-4--5--7--9--
|-------------

Sometimes it's fine to continue these intervallic patterns; other times it seems better to land on a chord or to play a line in single notes. But if I had any doubts about doing this piece in C, the occurrence of these patterns helped to reinforce my decision. Hope this makes sense. If anyone wants to discuss further just let me know.
