So the Ubass got me interested in basses, and upon my searching around, I got myself an Ashbory bass.

But I wanted frets.. and unfortunately the Kala solidbody fretted Ubass costs nearly $1000.. and it will be well over $1000 to get it in Australia. I wonder, why should a short scaled bass cost so much? (I'm not too keen on the acoustic Ubass. Never really liked the plain baritone look, nor the redundant hollow body, nor the price).

And upon my searching, I came across some other short scaled basses, which seem to work exceptionally well at a fraction of the cost.

This bass seems to also have built-in amp and speakers.. which he demonstrates later on. Doesn't sound great, but hey, it's a sound on the go without lugging around an amp.

The guitar version is pretty awesome too

Any other small basses that a uke player like myself would be interested in?

The only thing that stopped me from getting the Ashbory bass is that the strings are quite close together for as "fat and floppy" as they are. My motor skills are not that great and I tend to get a bit "enthusiastic" so I could imagine the strings banging together unintentionally.
