Cutting a wound string?

I want to restring my concert scale to low G, but I don't have a low G string... I DO however have a set of baritone strings, both regular tuning & gcea.

Can I just use one of those & cut off the excess?

Should be fine as far as the cutting of the string.

Be careful of the tension. It should work - but just take it slow and easy. Depending on the set, you might want to leave it in the b flat range.
