Howdy!

A friend of mine wants this forum's opinion on which concert ukulele he should get:

Mahalo U-320C for $45.99 http://www.amazon.com/Mahalo-U-320C-Deluxe-Concert-Ukulele/dp/B001SN7QYG/ref=pd_rhf_p_t_4
Makala MK-C for $53.99 http://www.amazon.com/Kala-MK-C-Makala-Concert-Ukulele/dp/B00172YM9U/ref=pd_rhf_p_t_1
Oscar Schmidt OU-2 for $53.70 http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...ils?ie=UTF8&me=&qid=1309807772&sr=8-3&seller=
I only started playing the ukulele less than a week ago, and have a Mahalo soprano and Kala KA-C concert. My friend came over yesterday, and we messed around with the ukuleles instead of playing video games. He feels the concert size works better for him and wants one now.

Aloha HR,
Wassup brah...My second uke is a Oscar Schmidt OU2... I play it almost every day.. if you drop tune it it sounds alot better...and I enjoy it more than my other more expensive ukes...but you
would have to know how tune it by ear....I say go to a music store....I don't know where you live...and try a few and pick the best sounding with the best playability and comfort one....
going by brands on entry level ukes and buying from a big distributer sounds like alot of problems you may run into...sure they are cheap and your get what you pay for...without a set up..
which could be the deciding factor if it plays or sounds well... smaller reputable dealers offer free setups.... otherwise it's an additional cost ahead and may be more than the price you originally
got it for...good luck..MM Stan

I have a makala mk c and I like it. Just play it and some day you might want to tweak it a little and then you learn how to do that. I like the Makala with the GHS strings it comes with. Those do sound good on it.

IMO, it's best for your friend to try them out and see which one they like best! I would personally stay away from ANYTHING Mahalo, but other than that...

Makala is to Kala what Squier is to Fender (guitars). Since they're the budget line of Kala, they'll probably be of very good quality for a beginner's instrument.
I've heard mixed things about the Oscar Schmidt ukuleles, but I would listen to anything that Stan says, he definitely knows what he's talking about. I've personally never tried an Oscar Schmidt in person.

Anyway, +1 on the Makala!
