Hi Everybody,
I recently had a chance to see the Mighty Uke DVD and thought it was really great. If you haven't got to see it yet I think you'll like it. I really liked the part on the Langley Ukulele Ensemble and noticed that some of the students were playing Doane style ukuleles. Are they still in production or were they older ones. Can you get one or are they vintage. I like the way they look and would like to get one if they are reasonable.
Thanks,
Eric

Eric,

I just bought an older one on eBay for way less than $100 I played one a few months ago when visiting the Newcastle Uke Group (Australia) - a lady had one there that had come from France! - and was pleasantly surprised. There is another one listed on US Ebay right now - search under Northern Uke.

I've had three. They're interesting but oddities. Laminated, a little awkward to hold, and okay but not exceptional sound. They were sold in the thousands to school kids in Canada in the 1970s. Doane also had a traditional shape made, but it's rare.
