Full disclosure: I work for RollingStone.com.

OK, now that that's out of the way, we have indie bands stop by the office all the time and do 3-song performances, then they end up on RollingStone.com.

Today, Jake Shimabukuro came by to play. He played:
1. Bring Your Ads
2. 143
3. Bohemian Rhapsody.

I literally sat about 20 feet away from him and he blew everyone's minds!

Yep, lucky me!

Tres coolio!

But it looks like he's plugged in? Why would he need to be amplified in a setting like that? Does he use any effects pedals?

I'd guess that if he's being recorded, it is going through a mixing board, so that the ukulele is clear - and having a mike pick up the acoustic sound from the instrument will add a lot to the final recording.

Okay, thanks. That actually makes a lot of sense. :)

Exactly right! Thanks for saving me the time of having to explain...

Here's another pic of Jake (I figured I'd give you guys a better view of his ukulele case). Before each song, he talked about what inspired it.

It was pretty surreal to be in such a small an intimate setting and seeing his genius up close. What a great ambassador for the ukulele!

Oh man, I wish!

I usually too timid to bother musicians after they perform. I'm sure Jake wouldn'tve minded. Me trying out his Kamaka...perhaps he would've minded that. LOL

That is seriously the bossiest thing I have ever heard. Ever. No exceptions. I think I speak for everyone when I say I am preposterously jealous.

Jake wasn't on the cover of RS. It was just a short snippet in RS's "Hot List" issue. Perhaps one day...

I want a case covered in stickers from around the world like him, so far I have a UU and some from Bosko and Honey's trip!
