a beautiful song and some of the most poignant lyrics I've heard sung. Lovely armchair philosophy from a brilliant songwriter.

recorded at home on the front porch, using a Mya Moe sycamore concert ukulele.

"Just Like A River"

(C)Just like a river I'll (F)carve my own (C)valley
Just like a mountain I'll (G)stand all alone
(C)Just like a cloud I'll un(F)cover a (C)sunset
If this world is (Am)it I will (F)make it my (C)home
If this world is (Am)it I will (F)make it my (C)home

Standing by highways I'll thumb my way over
Standing by oceans I'll listen to poems
Standing in cities I'll sing out the warning:
If this world is it I will make it my home
If this world is it I will make it my home

Cause I've (F)been to the bottom of (C)fear and self-loathing
And (F)in all that darkness, (C)love came along
And (F)though I still know my way (C)down to that (Am)basement
I'll (C)leave it be(Am)hind when (F)I hear these (C)songs
Leave it be(Am)hind when (F)I hear these (C)songs

Against the armies of darkness I'll ride out to meet em
The haters and half-baked I'll win em with song
Careerists and power I'll sweep out the ashes
For this world is it I will make it my home
This world is it I will make it my home

Now fear and doubt are our greatest rivals
But action and joy can carry us along
Hard work and hope they trump hard luck and trouble
For this world is it I will make it my home
This world is it I will make it my home

Now in line with you love will move to the centre
In line like grass our love will grow long
And in line like Whitman we'll love everybody
For this world is it we will make it our home
This world is it we will make it our home

Cause we've been to the bottom of fear and self-loathing
And in all that darkness love came along
Though we still know our way down to that basement
We'll leave it behind when we hear these songs
Leave it behind when we sing these songs.

Jon, Where's the video?

Hey Diane...I uploaded a version without watching it back and the sound of dogs howling through the final verse kind of wrecked the intimacy of it. It really came through loud. So I deleted it and will have another go at recording it this afternoon when I get home. One of the pitfalls of living in a virtual zoo!!!
