Would rather not buy a new DVD player but I can only find the box set in PAL format...or parish the thought...download illegally, but I am also done watching them on youtube. Any suggestions from the Underground?

Purchase, rip and convert them? Most DVD players and modern TV's these days will just deal with PAL/NTSC, the bigger issue is whether or not your DVD player is region locked or not...

My newest DVD player is about 6 years old- never thought to look, just figured it would be. I will give that a go.
Purchase and rip? So my computer drive I guess should understand them huh? I will look into the too- thank you

Yep, your computer's drive should be fine, but again the problem comes down to regions. If the DVD's are region 0 then you'll be sorted, if not, well... some computer DVD drives will only let you swap the region setting a handful of times before it region locks. YMMV.
