i have a baritone tuned DGBE and would like to learn frailing.

I believe banjo players retune their instruments to an open tuning of some sort to make frailing easier.

Can anyone recommend a better way than DGBE to tune a baritone uke for frailing to play fiddle tunes and folk songs?

If so, what major or minor keys would be best to play in the new tuning?

Of course, advice from any other size uke frailers or banjo would be greatly appreciated too.

Thanks for any info!

I tune my baritone DGBD, like a cavaquinho. Give this a go. You can use a simple cavaquinho chord chart online.

Get an extra High E string and replace your 4th string (low D) with it.
Tune it to high d, one whole step below your 1st string (high E)

Leave your G and B strings as they are.

Tune your first string (High E) one whole step down to D.

You'll now have dGBD re entrant tuning. Not exactly the same as banjo but will work for frailing.

Edit: actually any tuning will work for frailing, but this will get you close to banjo tuning which is what I think you are asking for.
