Note Meaning

On occasion while looking at the chords to a song I see a little circle to the right and above the note letter. It resembles a degree mark. For example you might see a C followed a few beats later by another C with this degree mark after it. Can anyone please tell me what this means? None of my many chord charts share anything on this. Thanks

So it looks like C°, am I right? If so, it's a symbol for a diminished chord. You might also see this written as Cdim.
