Another successful Ukulele Underground get together, yesterday!
Dustin (tsud) invited the southern California UU crowd to the BakitWhy
picnic to have fun and jam. While I did not count heads, our section
of the Bolsa Chica (Bag Lady) State Beach was packed with ukulelists
and admirers. Dustin on uke and his guitarist Ryan (no kidding!), rocked
the crowd with blazing licks and stunning vocals. The BakitWhy crowd
danced, sang and laughed through the night. I did a solo set of bluegrass,
classic rock and Hawaiian. Several other artists busked on the amps and
microphones. I setup a small battery powered stage and it was sufficient
for the venue. Two vocal mics through a Crate Taxi TX30, an Ovation
guitar through a Roland RX and two Ovation Applause acoustic/electric
sopranos through two Vox DA5's and a set of stand mounted bongos.
The food was great - Boca Burgers, hot dogs wrapped in bacon, chips,
dips and drinks. Everyone pitched in on the cooking, serving and cleanup.
I left around 9 P.M.. The party was still going on strong. The
BakitWhy/Ukulele Underground event was agreat success. Next time
the Ukulele Underground tours California, I'll setup the big P.A. on the
beach. Los Angeles, Orange County, Riverside and San Diego were all
well represented. Ric
