I was wondering if any luthiers can comment on the qualities of Bubinga wood (aka African Rosewood). I've seen a couple of ukes using it, but with my very limited experience, don't know whether something like this is worth considering.

I've read some information on it, but would appreciate an expert's view. What sort of tonewood is bubinga closest to? Is it something that would work on an 'ukulele?

Thanks, guys. It's a rare treat when we plebes are able to interact with professional craftsmen. I really do appreciate it.

It is good w/ spruce. I built one w/ spruce and bubinga about a year ago, and I like it. Bubinga seems a bit on the heavy side to me, I thinned it to about .065-.070 and it still seems like a pretty hefty uke. Sounds sweet though...
