Been asked a question I can't answer

Been asked why some ukes have a letter J carved on the back. Someone has a Lanikai with a nice J carved on neck heel. Perhaps a one off, but Eddie Vedder has a J on one of his too.

Any ideas?

Hmmmm, we have a Lanikai rep that belongs to UU, don't remember his handle though

I'm thinking this J was carved by hand not Lanikai, so presume there was significance. Perhaps just coincidence with Vedder

Dunno, but it might be a stringed phenomena, because I have seen a fender strat with SRV on the front of it.. Hmmm..

I wonder if it is the Hawaiian fish hook symbol? It is a very Hawaiian symbol and it is pretty cool too. I wouldn't be too surprised it really a hook?!
