Was just looking at a thread and the UU-er said they had to buy a new
uke for a motorcycle camping trip. Another said that we have different shoes for different occasions so then I thought I would like to know what reasons you can come up with for a new uke. This may prove as a good reference text for future UAS! :)

me first: I needed one of every size to see which was best.

My reason for a New Uke?

It played wonderfully, and I wanted it.

(And my wife agreed that the sound was absolutely wonderful, and that I should get it - even though I didn't think I should afford it.)

Because I don't have one of Those ukes yet... (this is a dangerous form of UAS)

My reasons have been:

1) needed an upgrade (bought my first Kamaka soprano)
2) needed a concert uke (bought my first Kamaka concert)
3) needed another to string low G (bought my second Kamaka concert)
4) wanted - didn't need - a pineapple (bought my pineapple) - could say I "needed" to buy it because one turned up and they're hard to come by?
5) needed a beach uke (bought my Kiwaya thinline) because those Kamakas were too nice to leave out in the sun all day
6) need a solid mahogany uke (haven't filled this need yet)

I could keep going, you know...

The sun rose today.
The moon came up tonight.
I woke up breathing today.
There's only 365 days in a year.
Tuesday was my 10 year anniversary of my single heart bypass (really).
I don't have Nunes, Dias, or Santos yet.
I don't have a vintage Gibson, Gretsch, or Lyon & Healy yet.
I NEED a Mya-Moe!
I REALLY need a Moore Bettah!
One reason.... PINEAPPLES!

Let's see, the excuses I used for the last few ukes:

Ko'olau CE-1: Don't have a solid body ukulele and no myrtle uke. (kills 2 birds with one stone!)
Lanikai Zebrawood concert: Don't have a zebrawood uke and I'm a slotted headstock junkie.
Kala pocket uke: Um, my 6 months old son needs a uke...
Mya-Moe concert: I need a myrt...er already used that one...need an ACOUSTIC myrtle uke... yeah, that's it...
Epiphone Les Paul: Hey, it's a Les Paul! (yes, that was my excuse)

heh heh -- fun thread.
how about this one? "hey, I sold the concert-grand marimba that I've had for years (and haven't played much in 10+ years), so I'm entitled to use that money for ukuleles.... and a marimba buys a few nice ukes! and heck,
ukuleles are a LOT more portable than a marimba.... "

it's Wednesday . . .

I like your reasoning!

My brother-in-law saw me and our nephew plucking away and he got hooked and bought a uke a week later. My sis got fed up listening to my brother-in-law plucking away in bed and wanted to show him how wrong his strumming was for Bruddah IZ's "Somewhere over the rainbow/What a wonderful world" and borrowed my little soprano (probably not getting that back!) soooo, my excuse is... I don't have anything with a high G. :D

I'm already deciding what uke to buy next year in Hawai'i! How bad is that?!

1) "Tomorrow will be Moore Bettah than today,......

........with just ONE more uke to play!"

Chuck,....feel free to use that if you ever get caught up and need to advertise! :biglaugh:

....or put it on your business cards maybe.:rotfl::uhoh::rotfl:

2) Ukes get lonely too.....

3) Because on ALL my others,.....that "New Uke" smell is gone! :D

4) I don't have one in that wood,....yet! (or size, color, price range, etc)

5) I need a backup in case i ever go professional.

6) Reasons???........I don't need no stinkin reasons!
:biglaugh:

Reason for a new uke?????

Because I wanted one - it is that simple.

Besides,....that's why "Charge It" was invented!

......and as i like to say:

"They can have my uke,......when they pry it from my cold dead fingers! :D

My reason for needing a new 'ukulele: So I can give my current one to my nephew for christmas. Get one, give one is my motto!
