Pardon me if this has been talked about before, but I came across what looks like some good instruction for uke newbys like myself. Kate Power and Steve Einhorn from Portland, OR have put together a two DVD set which teaches strumming, chords and fingerpicking for beginners. I just ordered this and saw that the DVD set is currently on sale at Homespun. I have no affilition with them, but thought other new uke players might want to take a look:

I agree that these are wonderful DVDs for beginner/early intermediate players. They do a great job--best instruction videos I found.

Thanks for sharing

I watched a preview and was amazed to see what a uke Kate Power plays. It has two G- and A-strings. What kind of uke is that?

Vladim, I think the uke she is playing is this 6-string uke made by Mya-Moe: http://www.myamoeukuleles.com/model 6 string.php

The web site describes the 6-string as " part 12-string guitar, part harp, part mandolin and part ukulele". I'm sure it sounds wonderful, but I think it would be a challenge to fingerpick. Strumming is probably where it excells.

both ukes in the preview are stunning but i would probably have to remortgage the house to buy one

Can't speak for the Mya-Moe, but Gillian on the forum has a Kamaka 6 string tenor, which she allowed me to play. It is a joy to finger pick, as well as strum. (But then, I used to finger pick the 12-string guitar, many many years ago....)

I'll bet they sound wonderful. Years ago I had a nice 12-string guitar, but never spent the time getting proficient at fingerpicking it. But I love the full sound of paired strings. Now I'm wondering however, why were the C and A courses picked for extra strings for ukulele?
