nybody aware of any problems associated with placing the input jack of a pick up on the lower curve of an ukes side rather than the tail block?

I know James Hill does it this way. Any special bracing required?

I find that the endpin location is best for a pickup. Aside from the obvious strength benefits of the block there, I find jacks on the lower bout of any instrument get in the way when playing seated.

I put a home-made pickup in a dolphin and stuck the jack on the bottom bout. Drove me nuts.

I had a Washburn guitar with a jack and XLR in a similar position. Also drove me nuts.

I found that a jack in the bout also needed at least a patch or some wide washers to spread the load. Even laminated ribs will crack under too much of the wrong sort of stress.

Ditto what Rick said, input jacks on the bottom really suck for playing seated. You just about have to have a right-angle plug on your cord and it still sucks. This is more true of ukes even then of larger instruments like guitars and basses.
