oh dear so sorry to hear this :( prayers for your recovery

here is a short article on liver detox herbs.

If I may add a bit of personal advice, I would recommend consult your doc and an herbalist to see if there are thigns you can do in adition to your standard treatment that might help. I myself have had good results with herbals wereas a lot of 'traditional' meds have failed for me. So it is something you might want to look into if you haven't already. All the best.

08-30-2011, 01:22 AM

Mike, I don't know you man, I've seen a few of your videos on youtube (reviews and songs) and enjoyed them and had contact with you about 2 years ago over the possibility of buying a uke, but I bought one elsewhere. Nevertheless, I'm guessing you're having a fairly shit experience with this Liver problem and I hope the wonders of modern medicine can help you out. As for Ians' lack of faith in the divine,

Best wishes Mike. Hope you get better soon. I'm sorry I can't offer prayers, but this atheist can still offer his sympathies.

Well, I'm an agnostic so I shall edge our bets and pray to all the deities, Buddha, Jesus, Mohammed, Zeus, Santa and the likes! Hopefully one will hear me and help you out!

All the best neighbour and get well soon.

Sorry to be joining in so late, Michael. I don't always get online everyday so I was truly surprised and saddened to hear that your ongoing condition is flaring up again.

There is really nothing that can be added to all of these kind words from your friends...the volume of well-wishers on this forum should tell you how people feel about you. Nevertheless, let me add my sincere and best wishes for a speedy and complete recovery.

Via an acquaintance on facebook:

"Just wanted to update those of you who are friends with Michael S Aratani ... His condition has gotten worse and the ammonia levels are affecting his brain. They are keeping him medicated to keep him as comfortable as possible. He's on an emergency request to be placed on the liver transplant list. At this point his Mom said all we can do is pray ~"

Thanks for linking that here. It is good to see Mike with a smile on his face.

For all of those saying "get well soon", well, let's be honest here. His liver is failing. It's not going to get better and he's not going to "get well" soon.

He needs a transplant. Now.

And now is a good time to consider what you're willing to do for someone down the line. Some states allow you to become an organ donor just by ticking a box on your driver's license.

It's not like you're going to be able to use any of those old parts when you go anyway. :)

09-06-2011, 02:48 AM
you make a good point , i was just reading the other day froma group i support that there is a serious organ shortage. Many children in need of them too that dont find a match. I cant donate organs or blood because of the Lyme , but there are so many healthy people who could , i think its a beautiful thing to know that if you should happen to die that your death could mean you save someone elses life.

I know your intentions are good and out of concern, still many of us believe in not giving up hope and in miracles, so i don't think it wrong to send positive vibes and wish he gets well. IMHO faith hope and love count, and staying postive is very important. I've been in very dire situation several times where i didnt think I would make it but against odds i am still here! Like I told a friend of mine also in a bad way (though doctors told him he had 3-5y to live, here it is 22 years later!) its like that 'Castaway' movie with Tom Hanks "you never know what the tide will bring" now is not the time to be negative , he is not dead yet. another saying I like concerning making the most of here and now- "there will be time enough for tears" I hope he staying confortable and everyone around him is positive and keeping things cheerful and doing and saying things supporting the life force he needs. The right attitude is a very important thing for health and survial. Trust me I know if anyone does.

Hang in there Mike, blessings and wishing for a strong tide of good fortune for you and others who need it.

Thanks for the prompt regarding organ donation. It's not for everyone, but we should certainly all think it over.

As for the get well wishes: well, I think we have gathered pretty much how the situation stands. Judging from the tone of your comment this is going to come as a surprise to you, but you're not the only person with a grip on reality, so please don't patronise your fellow members and dismiss their sincere good wishes out of hand.

Regardless of the medical details, we DO hope that Mike gets well soon, whether it's by transplant, miracle or any other means.
