I didn't know D'Addario made uke strings. I use them exclusively on my guitars.

The Kamaka strings are made by d'addario. They're fat black nylon and work well with my playing. I use them on a hf-1. Heavy strings for a heavy soprano. I wouldn't use them on a light ukulele like the koalohas.

I don't think the Kamaka strings made by D'Addario are the same as ones you can buy in the stores. Sorry, I don't know anything about them but would be interested in hearing what others have to say.

I use Pro Artes on my Oscar Schmidt tenor strung low G, I just buy a regular set, or get two high Es if you want re entrant tuning. I like the higher tension, and heavier feel on the larger uke, they seem to have a deeper tone, i prefer them for finger picking.

I just put a set of Pro-Arte on my Boulder Creek. They are deeper sounding than the Aquilas that were on it originally. I like the wound C; it gives it a little more "oomph!" that straight nylon doesn't have.

I tested J53 on both Ohana Vita CKP70 and Ohana SK25-Z sopranos. They are hard tension strings IMHO and took time to stabilize and get good sounding. They produced a sweet and warm tone. But I disliked the feeling of their touch under the fingers and the light "shhht, shhhht" they produced when I played. Nevertheless, some people may love them and their price is low.

I'm sorry, I believe you're referring to the J54 set which are black nylons with a wound C. The Pro Arte string sets (J71[Tenor] and J92[Concert]) are all nylon strings. These were packaged from the J46 and J45 Classical Guitar sets. The J65 set for soprano is also nylon and the J53 are black nylons. See also FYI - Uke Strings.

At the luthier's recommendation, I use this classical guitar string as the wound low G on my Kawika tenor:

D'Addario Pro-Arte D Light Silverplated Copper Wound .028, J4304

I've had great success since I switched to the D'Addario string. I use Savarez Alliance classical guitar strings for the other three strings. I buy them as single strings on JustStrings.com.

Thanks for the correction; didn't have the sleeves they came in handy at the time of the post. Either way, I do like the wound C.

I just put a set of Pro Artes on one of my concerts, and quite like them. Definitely more mellow then the Aquilas that were on it and the smooth feel and thickness make fingerpicking a little cleaner for me. I had a set of D'Addarios (don't remember the type, but an opaque white with a couple wound) on a baritone and wasn't impressed. I just got my pineapple back from Kamaka with a set of their black strings which I understand are made by D'Addario, but haven't much time to play it yet but they sound quite nice on it

You're one of the few who likes wounds . . . cool!

I attribute that to my years of bass playing, so that wound string still gives me that little bit of familiarity. That said, while I like the wound C on the Boulder Creek, I'm not sure how well it will work with the Kala.

It's so much nicer with string sets around $4-5 instead of dropping $50 for my bass.

Thanks for the link. It looks like he said they have enough testers, but I emailed him anyway; maybe there's room for one more?

They're not the same as the normal d'addario soprano set. They're even fatter :)

I dunno... the Kamaka strings on HF-3 look like normal, and feel so. But I haven't swapped to any other string, just a regular user's feeling
