In the neighbourhood

So this is what I have been thinking... what makes a neighbourhood and a community.
This song is perhaps about urban decay and things not working anymore.
Garbage on the street, homelessness, guns for protection, squaller,
packs of stray dogs, no services, and disruption everywhere.


Where nowadays do you find communities that are supportive and uplifting?
Life would seem to be all about angst and isolation. I really do think that when
art and culture and music and dance disappear from communities,
then decay really sets in. Things get burnt and broken and the good things
that uplift a community... they just disappear and are replaced by despair.


Dance today... your life may depend on it.

wee - I think you need to collect all of your Tom Waits covers and release them - I really enjoy them..... always appreciate the care you take with the visual component of your posts as well. I always feel lazy when I watch one your videos - the whole point of You Tube IS the video...... nicely done again, sir, and inspiring.....

Thank you for your kind words. I like Tom Waits because he is a great lyricist.
I have 11 songs in my Tom Waits playlist my personal favourites are 2:19, Temptation
and Ruby's arms.

I see that Peter Gabriel's version of "in the neighbourhood" is the featured as "up next"
I think his preamble to the song is very insightful, in that music often by-passes the cerebral
channels and speaks straight to our hearts and emotions. He does succeed in making
this into a hymn or a sacred song. Very skillful yet simple.
