Bought one of these new from MGM [which I sold here
on UU]and bought this one used here on UU.
I put a pickup in my KoAloha tenor and
don't need 2 tenors[+ my wife is bugging me to thin
the herd]
This uke sounds and plays great. The thin solid
cedar top makes it a sound monster. The former owner replaced the active Shadow PU it came with to what he said was a $90 Pono . I don't think Pono made their own PU, but he probably bought it from Pono. It sounds better than the Shadow, I had them both at the same time and could compare them side by side. This passive PU has a lot less handling noise but still has plenty of signal for my Fishman amp.
Has a strap button on the heel, I tied a long shoestring around it and the PU strap holder and it works fine. It's so light a real strap is overkill.
I found the cedar top to be a very soft wood[probably why it's so resonant] and very easy to ding, and there are 2 small dings in this one on the top [ it came this way,see picture 10 & 11 on photobucket.]So I coated the top with tung oil, which didn't seem to effect the sound at all ,but made the top much more resistant to scratches/dings. The only real negative is the way the saddle sits due to the height of the pickup and the fact that you can see into the body where the shadow controls were. Neither really bothered me.The saddle is secure, it just sits high in the slot, the action is fine at about 1/8 inch at the 12th fret. I actually took the plastic off and had a sound hole, but put it back on for the picture. You could put some black tape over the holes if it bothered you, butIt really lets some sound out.
The rest of the uke is mint, geared tuners work
fine, nice straight neck, no other issues. Comes
with hard foam case pictured.See the ebay link for
the specs and the utube for a sound sample[not mine
but it sounds just like it, and he plays better]
This is really a nice
instrument and plays well up the neck. If not 100%
satisfied you can return it for a full refund, you
just pay the shipping.
$175 + shipping, which
should be about $20 or less depending on your
location. I'll just charge actual shipping, and will
pack it myself, I know how. I usually ship UPS
ground. If you want it faster just let me know.
I paid about $350 for one a few years ago from
MGM,So this is half price.Don't know it's
age,but serial # is 821.
