I'm thinking about getting one of these, and restringing it to gCEA like a uke.

Any thoughts??

Well, it's a five-string instrument so you're going to have a weird bit of extra fretboard.

Oddly, I've always wanted a bluegrass banjo, but didn't want to spend a potload of bucks on it, since I'd probably only play it occasionally. That's where the Backyard Music Banjo comes in. In its kit form, it's only $99.

They also make Celtic lap harps (another instrument I'd love to doodle with) and mountain-style (as opposed to hammered) dulcimers. Both of them come in a kit form too.

My daughter's Hammered Dulcimer teacher sent her home with a 50's Vega 5 string a couple of weeks ago and she's been working like a mad thing on it. She's having a lot of fun with it. I'm anxious to hear something besides Cluck Old Hen and Blackberry Blossom in my head, but at least they're good tunes to get stuff done to.

The experience has had me eyeing one of those banjo Ukes though. I think that 5th string and the long reach would be a little much for me.

Good luck with it Slick!
