View Full Version : Lake salvaged quilted maple. Ummmmmm

10-15-2011, 06:26 PM
Here are a few shots of the batch of ukes I am finishing up right now. The First one is some lake salvaged quilted maple I have been saving for years.
The craziest thing about this maple is that is it's natural color. No silly white maple here!
And, here is a link to the building progress of the ukes. http://www.devineguitars.com/guitar-ukulele-blog/

I will totally arm wrestle you for that maple uke- it is AMAZING..they all are, but that one is the bees knees

OMG! That is GORGEOUS!! It reminds me of the NZ Kauri that was unearthed when they built the Motorway thru South Auckland some 25+ years ago & they found a large number of full grown Kauri trees/logs that had fallen over into a bog thousands of years ago - and they were slowly dried out & milled for EXQUISITE wood work projects! It was called Swamp Kauri

Those would grace ANY member's collection with pride

Man those are simply sick! Gorgeous would be an understatement. I would not want one of those as I would just simply stare at them all day and never leave my house. Probably wind up like Smegal in the Lord of the Rings......"my precious" :)

My wallet just walked by me and whispered, "use me"

There should be rules about posting that kind of porn on the forum, now I have to clean the saliva off my Dolphin.

10-16-2011, 04:55 AM
I agree with zacht. It is time that we come up with some rules about posting these photos of magnificent ukuleles in front of the eyes of people afflicted with UAS. It is akin to wafting the aroma of a fine single malt under the nose of an alcoholic.

All kidding aside, beautiful, beautiful work Eric. I would love to hear how they sound. :)

That first one is hypnotic

10-16-2011, 10:17 AM
Wow, thanks guys for all the kind words. I'll post a few more pics when they are finished.

10-16-2011, 01:24 PM
And I thought I didn't want any more ukes for quite a while after getting the Sceptre...

Truly breathtaking- if they sound as good as they look, they really should be illegal.

wow such cool wood , I love trees <3

10-16-2011, 03:08 PM
Those really are the most beautiful ukes I have ever seen. It is evident you love your work.

10-16-2011, 04:10 PM
Sometimes when I see a beautiful work of art, I don't care what form it takes. This wood was clearly destined to become beautiful works of art (and music)! Great work, man!

10-17-2011, 09:17 AM
Wow - that maple made me start trying to figure out how I could come up with 3 grand. That's the deepest maple I've ever seen (in the perceived depth of the quilting I mean). Take lots of pics so we can love it vicariously Eric!

10-17-2011, 10:56 AM
And here I just told my wife that I didn't want to get another Uke. Actually I was right. I don't want another uke- I WANT THAT ONE!!!. the maple one with the awesome quilting.

10-17-2011, 01:06 PM
Those are gorgeous! They have to be some of the most beautiful instruments ever crafted!

10-17-2011, 01:17 PM
WOW! I assume these uke are already spoken for??? If not, let me know.............

10-17-2011, 04:25 PM
Folks,...you've only been offered a "teaser" with just the 2 ukes pictured!

Go to Eric's website and look thru the VAST photo collection of past work. Be sure to have a bucket nearby,....

........a gallon size would seem about right,.....

.....to collect the DROOL sure to be generated! :D

(Use the hidden picture changing arrows on left and right side of current picture to move along)

This is quite interesting also,.....some of the previous ukuleles in the build process.

Outstanding work, BTW! http://www.devineguitars.com/guitar-ukulele-blog/

Thanks guys, and yes, they are all spoken for. But the good news is I still have two more sets of that maple left!

10-17-2011, 08:00 PM
Beautiful work Eric, i love contrast with the binding. Hook me up with a set of that maple!
