It's been 3 weeks since my number one Son "Mike" started teaching himself "Solidworks" 3 dimensional CAD/CAM..and he's progressing quite well..He has turned out my special raduis dish..and I'm hoping I can get him to rough out some Soprano necks for me or something like that:)..Presently he's in the process of making himself some mold's for thermo plastic forming..He's making them out of chipboard kitchen worktop offcuts..he makes a rough shape from the chipboard then coats it with catalytic resin (car body filler) the goes over it again to fill all the lumps and voids in the chipboard..then one more final thin coat of resin and final machining to produce the desired finish...I thought i'd take a couple of Pic's.
This is it before the final coat.

Looks good. I can imagine several projects for such a machine.

Beg to differ. They do some rough cuts on an automatic shaper, then finish off on Fadal CNC machines. Bob's an old friend of mine, and I've been to the factory a number of times over the years. I do know how he builds guitars...
