For those who have been around the industry for a while you may have heard of the very many horror stories of dealings with the McCray's of Alaska Tonewoods (who have been shut down by the Authorities in Alaska after too many complaints to ignore). If you were, or know someone unfortunate enough to have had dealings with them then you will know why they were shut down.

Graham MacDonald who is a well respected luthier in Australia and author of a few books has just posted some new info about what appears to be the same family trying to set up under another business name. You can see the original thread on the ANZLF.

Do not confuse the above with Alaska Specialty Woods. These folks are excellent to deal with and go out of their way for customer satisfaction.

personal experiance

I bought a set for archtop from them once. Wood was so wet it soaked the box they shipped it in. finally dried out after a couple years. but was warped pretty bad. Ended up making a flat top and a couple spruce toped ukes.
Never used them again!
